Hello  Wanderers,

If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my decade in the travel industry, it’s that there is always this additional unexpected event that can ruin your travel plan.

Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas, every year in August, is one of the largest and most exciting tradeshow in the Travel  industry where its leaders and innovators share and get energized. You talk to an average of 20 to 30 new persons per day! Imagine this.

Personally I always carry my electronic notepad, (thank you Remarkable), business cards book holders and my faithful phone to keep me organized and focused. 

As the director of my travel agency, the goal is to deepen the existing relationships, create new ones and learn the new trends in Travel.  I’m a firm believer that you keep on learning every single day.

Suddenly, a throbbing pain in my side brought my exciting professional  week to a grinding halt. 

I could not ignore the pain and was sent to the emergency room. Bye bye glam of Virtuoso Luxury travel  and hello cold room at the ER with an  IV in my left arm.

After a CTscan, I got confirmation about having multiple  kidney stones.

The timing could not be worse.  Away from my loved ones,  I find myself in pain having to change my flight schedule to go back home and change my hotel room plans. 

 In the game : Kidney Stones vs. Virtuoso Travel Week,  well the stones won.

Expenses quickly piled up, with  besides  the medical ones,  I had to deal with extra cost to change last minute my flight back home,  change my hotel and the multiple ubers taken as I was dealing with all of this by myself in Las Vegas.

Having to cut the tradeshow short was a bummer. But knowing I had travel insurance to back me up? Priceless. It took a massive load off my shoulders, allowing me to focus on my recovery without the added stress of finances and logistics.

I’m sharing this misdaventure with my fellow travel enthusiasts to remind y’all that travel insurance should be a non-negotiable part of your wanderings.  Next time you plan your perfect getaway, don’t let your peace of mind be the sacrifice. Do it right—opt for travel insurance and keep your adventures carefree. Even if this is a work related trip,  you just never know what can happen.
